Our immediate family consists of four members. Kim (K.W.), the husband & father; Shelly, the wife & mother; Zachary, our son and Amanda, our daughter. We are a unit - very diversified with varying ideas & gifts, but common goals of commitment, integrity, honesty, productivity, spiritual steadfastness in Christian beliefs and realizing that each moment should be regarded as valuable and irreplaceable. Our extended family includes all of our other family members, our co-workers, friends, business associates and those individuals that are integral to the health & care of the Eagle Flight Morgan Horses. Kim & Shelly met at a church Bible study shortly after Christmas 1978. They became very good friends, then dated and fell in love. They married on Nov. 10, 1979 at the chrch where they met. Since their marriage to each other, their two biggest blessings have been their children. Zachary arrived May 3, 1982 and Amanda arrived May 31, 1983. Kim and Shelly both worked full time in health care, Kim as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist and Shelly as a critical care registered nurse. Our family dream was to move from the city and have our own farm in a rural area. Amanda was born with a passion for horses which prompted Kim & Shelly to follow their dream and find land for a farm - and horses! In March of 1995, we followed up on an ad in the newspaper for an acreage. It was just perfect; trees, but not too many, rolling hills, two ponds, 30 acres of green bermuda grass pasture surrounded by pipe and cable fencing. So, we sold our house in town, bought our farm and moved to our "little house on the prairie." While we were considering and praying about purchasing our farm, we requested to have a family picnic lunch on the property. Our request was generously granted by the land holder. To our surprise, during our lunch, we looked up to see a bald eagle flying overhead. We were thrilled by the sight of this beautiful bird in a non-captive environment. The eagle is a fitting symbol for our family and farm - our national symbol (especially significant since the Morgan was the first breed of horse originated in the United States), and the Christian spiritual significance of the eagle(Is. 40:26-31). It is also a good representative for the Morgan breed with its strength, beauty, and boldness. Our life is full and our farm is our place for renewal and regeneration. Kim and Shelly have now been very happily married for over 20 years and are blessed with not only each other, but their two wonderful children. Shelly hasn't been able to work since 1992 when she was diagnosed with systemic lupus erythrematosus and a subsequent mild stroke in late 1994. Currently, chemotherapy/immunosuppression seems to be keeping the situation stable. Kim underwent emergency open heart surgery in Jan. 1996 for a torn mitral valve. We have been very grateful for Kim's complete recovery. He again enjoys his work as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist and daily farm chores. Both Kim & Shelly attribute coping , recovery, healing, and attitude to our heavenly Father, our family, friends, and the healthy calming lifestyle of our farm and horses. We are united as a family in our Christan beliefs and to each other. We share a common goal of providing the best quality care and producing quality, family raised, Morgan horses. |
